Email

Our email service is built over the Zimbra Collaboration Server, which is built with an award winning user interface over the web. It also interoperates with most popular desktop client applications.

This email solution allows customers to:

• Manage business email, contacts, calendar, file and document sharing
• Work with any POP / IMAP email client
• Automatically sync Zimbra, Yahoo! and Google email, contacts, and calendars Manage document collaboration across all their employees
• It works on Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.
• It is built to allow customers to work anywhere, have all their tools in one, run from any device and
• Optionally select desktop clients such as Outlook, Thunderbird or any device that supports POP/IMAP and iCal/CalDAV.
• Our email service includes anti-virus and spam filtering.
• Customers can setup their email with their domain, for example theceo@yourdomain.co.za

Online and Web Storage

We offer customers storage capacity for their web-site and business data. Customers need to control the amount of data they store.

• The type of data includes documents, web-site information and database information. Our online storage is subject to terms and conditions regarding storage of specific content and cleanliness of data.
• Telkom gives customers access via FTP to update their website using a large variety of web authoring tools. For access to data storage, customers can also use the Zimbra platform to upload documents and files, with the added benefit of secure sharing within their business environment.

Web Traffic

• Depending on the popularity of their websites, the amount of traffic generated off customer websites is measured to a certain cap.
• Customers have the option to run their websites at an out-of-bundle rate, once the web traffic limit is reached.
• The amount of traffic generated off their site depends on the type of content the customer offers on their site (large graphics, flash, etc).
• We will provide customers usage reports at certain thresholds before they reach their cap.
• However, we suggest that the amount of traffic we offer customers is sufficient for them to market their website across their customer base.

Databases

• Depending on which package they select, we offer customers either 1, 5, 10 or 20 access links to their allocated databases
• If they select the UNIX hosting packages, they get access to MySQL
• If they select the Windows hosting packages, they get access to Microsoft SQL Server databases
• Customers can manage the content of their database using database management tools e.g.Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager or MySQL query browser or the database control panel (phpMyAdmin in the case of MySQL) See section on "Plesk control panel" for tool included for customer to manage their databases.

Web Presence Builder

• Web Presence Builder is offered only in certain packages.
• It is a website publishing tool that allows customers to create and manage their personal or business website with ease.
• Site Builder's intuitive wizard-style interface allows anyone to build a professional website in easy steps – no advanced design skills or HTML experience necessary!
• Their completed site is immediately available and can be edited afterwards, once it is uploaded to the Telkom hosting facility.
• All customers need is a modern web-browser to use the tool.

Web Statistics

• For customers hosting their website with us, Telkom will provide customers monthly statistics relating to visits to their websites.
• Customers can select the frequency and detail of the reports they require.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Accounts

File Transfer Protocol allows customers to access their online and web-data storage, via any standard browser. Depending on the package they select, they are allowed a specific number of access accounts for distribution within their company. After the web hosting product has been activated, customers should receive a document with instructions on how to link to their FTP accounts.

Web Page Script Support

• A scripting language, script language or extension language is a programming language that allows control of their website elements.
• Beyond the standard web-scripting languages (HTML, XHTML, XML, JavaScript), the following programming languages are supported by our platform:
  • PHP: a server-side scripting language originally designed for web development to produce dynamic web pages.
  • Perl: used for graphics programming, system administration, network programming, finance, bioinformatics, and other applications.
  • The Common Gateway Interface (CGI): standard that defines how web server software can delegate the generation of web pages to a stand-alone application or an executable file.
  • ASP.net: only available on the Windows hosting packages, an alternative to PHP.
  • All forms of Flash applications, except video streaming.

Plesk Control Panel

• To manage the functionality on all these services (email, DNS, web-hosting, database management), we provide customers a fully functional control panel for system administration and feature tweaking.
• This self-control allows customers to make changes to their tools on the fly, while still maintaining integrity of their business data, without having to call us for support.
• Parallels Plesk Panel allows a server administrator from their company to set up new websites, reseller accounts, e-mail accounts, and DNS entries through a web-based interface.
• The administrator can create client and site templates, which predetermine resource-allocation parameters for the domains and / or clients (employees).
• Customers will get access to the panel once they sign-up.

Domain Name Service Registration

• In all our packages, we include domain registration for businesses. Depending on availability of the customer's preferred domain, we request it from the .co.za or .za.net registrar, and register it to their business.
• We manage the registration for the customer, and maintain their renewals annually until they elect to cancel their domain.
• The beauty of the customer's business domain is that it becomes their business’s online identity –they can link your email and hosting accounts to this domain.
• If customers already have a domain, we can facilitate the domain transfer provided that they sign necessary release forms.
• It is important that the customer's existing provider releases the domain for their business to us, wherefrom we take over registration and support.
