Telkom Internet offers an innovative range of Internet Bandwidth Usage products. This means that Telkom Internet users are not bound to specific access media on any of our accounts. All our product options can be utilise via ADSL, or even our Satellite services, with one convenient username and password. We have two types of solution types i.e. capped and uncapped services.
Solution types: Capped and Uncapped
- Telkom Business now offers UNCAPPED services that give you the quality you deserve, and we want to meet our customer’s needs for flexibility and peace-of mind of consistent access to the internet even during peak months where you may need more internet usage bandwidth than your typical monthly usage. As opposed to a Capped offering, uncapped offerings provide no predetermined level of the volume data usage which can be transferred over e.g. a month. Telkom Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
- For the cost conscious customers, Telkom Business offers much better value on its CAPPED services. Over the last few months, we have practically doubled cap and halved price, to meet our customer needs. We are launching business related capped offerings to suit from entry level to the most advanced users. Capped services comprise of a block or predetermined amount of data volume usage allowed to be transferred over a given period. The cap is thus quoted in terms of GB.
Internet traffic types
Depending on the type of applications customers run, Telkom offers two flavours of bandwidth to business customers: shaped and unshaped.
- Shaped traffic – is linked to a profile where the traffic on international bandwidth is prioritized for web-browsing and mail protocols.
- Unshaped traffic – is not governed by any web traffic prioritization and thus carries a higher. Unshaped services are meant for customers with more sophisticated solutions,

- Considering the relationship of line speed (bandwidth) and data usage (cap), customers are provided varying degrees of access bandwidth and indirectly access to the network provided the information transferred.
- Ultimately, flooding or excessive information flow utilizes bandwidth available and affects the pool of users sharing the same resources. Volume data usage is not affected but customer experience and productivity as a minimum is potentially severely affected.
- The AUP is a given requirement for managing the resource capacity and accessible allocation across all service offerings. The introduction of Uncapped services require further extension of this policy to apply some form of control to ensure that all customers experience equal treatment and enjoy equivalent access in terms of the services provided through their specific customer/ user / product profile.

Features
- The ADSL offerings comprise a number of shared elements e.g. aggregation equipment, bandwidth pool and usage pool, to position the ADSL-based services as a relatively inexpensive Broadband offering.
- National or Local traffic is generated by accessing servers or content hosted nationally. International traffic is generated by access servers or content which is hosted internationally (i.e. on a different continent).
- Blended data refers to a mix of international and local traffic. The ADSL Cap is typically based on Blended bandwidth. ADSL traffic is shared.
- The cost of international traffic is largely determined by the intercontinental infrastructure or network required to access internationally-hosted services and geographic location is a major factor in this regard. Consider that South Africa, as opposed to the UK, or even Libya is far-removed geographically from major developed countries locations and hubs.
